‘NCIS’ renewed for season 14, season 15; Mark Harmon signs new deal

NCIS -

Clearly, CBS sees no immediate end in sight for “NCIS,” even though Michael Weatherly is departing the series at the end of this season.

Today, the network confirmed that they are doing more than just renewing the show for a 14th season on the air; they are also giving the show a fifteenth season, which will help it get closer to joining the pantheon of longest-running primetime drama series of all time. (It will still have some work to do in order to catch the original “Law & Order.”) In a statement, CBS Entertainment President Glenn Geller said the following:

“It’s extraordinary that in its 13th season and with over 300 episodes to its credit,NCIS continues to excel at such a high level on a global scale … It is testimony to an amazing cast, led on and off the screen by the exceptional Mark Harmon, for skillfully bringing this universally appealing team of heroes to life; and to Gary Glasberg and his writers for crafting compelling stories that feature NCIS’s signature blend of mystery, quirk, drama and comedy every single week.”

For those wondering, Harmon has signed a new two-year deal, presumably to retain his duties both on the show and also behind the camera. He is also an executive producer on “NCIS: New Orleans,” which is likely to also be renewed given some recent ratings.

With Weatherly exiting, the rumor mill has it that the show is looking for a big-name actress to step into a new role, one that could be introduced at the end of the season before becoming a regular for season 14.
