‘The Walking Dead’ season 6, episode 11 reaction: Lauren Cohan on Maggie, Gregory
Through Sunday night’s new episode of “The Walking Dead,” we had a chance to see some of the Hilltop Colony for the first time … and the same also goes for Gregory. He’s an interesting character in that he’s doing what he can to survive, but at the same time some of that means having to give so much to Negan. He’s hurting his people, but if he doesn’t, Negan will hurt them. It’s a really tricky situation that he finds himself in, and he’s certainly a different sort of “villain” than any other that we’ve seen.
So what does Lauren Cohan have to say about this part? Speaking in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter all about Gregory (who Maggie spent some time with in this episode), she had the following to say:
“…There’s something endearing about that character in that he really believes he’s doing the right thing for his people. And he is — he’s created a safe, stable society [despite] what they have to provide to Negan to stay safe. When he offers Maggie other perks, for a moment he believes she’s going to think she’s getting a good deal no matter what ever it is he’s offering. (Laughs.) You just heard me talk about my husband! But do we think we can trust Gregory? Once we see there’s a bigger beast at play and why they were posturing so much, I do think we can trust him. There’s almost an innocence to what they were pretending to have and their posturing. He’s not a Governor-type. Some of his behavior is buffoonish to them in beginning but there is a respect that Maggie finds for him in his negotiating because they’re on par with each other and she’s serving back to him what he was trying to do with her. And they know thy need to work together.”
We’re going to get a chance throughout the rest of this season to see more of how Gregory factors into everything, since it’s obvious what we are building to and you therefore have a major reason to worry about Gregory and the rest of the Hilltop Colony as a result.
