‘Doctor Who’ season 10: Maisie Williams will not be returning

MaisieFor everyone out there hoping that Maisie Williams could be making a fast return to “Doctor Who” after having a little bit of time aboard the series this past season, we bring some disappointing news.

In an interview with Bang Showbiz shared over on Digital Spy, the “Game of Thrones” star makes it clear that due to everything else going on in her career right now, she will not be stopping by as Ashildr:

“I’m not going to be working on ‘Doctor Who’ again … Everyone’s hyping about it, which is very exciting, but I guess that’s more of a publicity thing. But no, I’m not going to return, I have a lot of other really exciting projects lined up instead.”

Who knows? Maybe she will have a chance to make some sort of cameo on the series at some point moving further into the future, but we’re really not shocked to hear the news that she will be shying away from season 10. For one, the filming is going to be colliding in a big way with “Game of Thrones” season 7 filming provided that Arya is still alive, and we wouldn’t be altogether shocked if she wants to take on a lot of different projects that don’t have too much to do with genre TV. Sooner or later, people do often want to do something that is a change of pace from what they’ve done before.

Ultimately, the tenth “Doctor Who” season will air in 2017. Hopefully, we’ll have more on it in due time.
