‘The X Factor’ UK: Dermot O’Leary reportedly in talks to return as host

The latest news -Well, the experiment on “The X Factor” UK without Dermot O’Leary as the show’s host clearly did not last very long.

According to a new report from The Sun, the Simon Cowell-produced show is in the process of negotiating a new three-year deal that will help to ensure that the former host will be interested in making a return visit to the show that once had him on board for many years. Here’s what a source had to say:

“Dermot will come back to The X Factor. Talks are under way on his deal but everything is positive. Everyone, including Dermot and Simon, has the will to make it work.”

Ultimately, we think that Cowell will work this out, given that what he saw with Olly Murs and Caroline Flack as hosts was further evidence of just how hard this gig can be, especially when you have two people trying to do what is effectively a one-person job. Granted, we would’ve thought that he would have realized this when it came to the Khloe Kardashian – Mario Lopez experiment over on the American version of the show, but that didn’t happen. This is just a tough job; you have to move the show along, be funny, and also make sure that you are sympathetic to the contestants at the same time. Dermot’s a professional, and he can help to establish a little more consistency with a show that does need that sort of stable presence.

This new season will still need to find a replacement for Nick Grimshaw on the judging panel, and maybe even Rita Ora depending on what she decides.
