‘Supergirl’ episode 14 video: The introduction of Italia Ricci’s Siobhan Smythe

There is a new employee coming to CatCo on Monday night’s new episode of “Supergirl,” and at the moment we have a feeling that this is someone Kara Danvers is not going to be particularly thrilled to see. Her name is Siobhan Smythe, played by “Chasing Life” alum Italia Ricci, and she is going to be someone worth watching through the next several episodes of the show.

Just in case you were wondering why we are getting a new assistant to Cat Grant now, she explains it perfectly: She apparently realizes that her job is too big for one person, or at least it is too big for the one person she happens to know as “Kira.” She refers to Smythe as assistant #1 now, and apparently prefers her coffee and speaking to her in the office over Kara, who is relegated more to phone duty. We certainly understand why Cat would want to bring someone else in for this job, given that it is not exactly like she is devoted to her work all of the time.

From the standpoint of entertainment, it’s going to be great to see Ricci on the show … especially since it’s been widely reported already that this character is the alter ego for the famed villain Silver Banshee. She is therefore somebody we could have a chance to see in a variety of different ways, and who knows? Maybe this is a supervillain origin story that is even more elaborate than the one we got a chance to see recently with Livewire.

The one thing that we know for sure is that we really wish Cat had just learned the truth about Kara being Supergirl. There’s a lot of great story there that we are left waiting around to see.
