‘Sherlock’ season 4: Benedict Cumberbatch, cast to return to Wales for filming
While the fourth season of “Sherlock” has not started to film just yet, isn’t it nice to have a few more details about what that process is going to be? We certainly like to think so.
Let’s start off by saying what we know at the moment. According to a report from Wales Online, the upcoming batch of episodes featuring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman will return to South Wales for filming; specifically, it will be at Pinewood Studios. This studio has been a useful location for many iconic productions, including some episodes of “Doctor Who” and also even scenes from “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” Given that both “Sherlock” and “Doctor Who” have Steven Moffat as a writer / executive producer, there is quite a bit of connective tissue that is there.
It’s unclear whether or not there will still be some on-location sequences filmed here and there for the fourth season, but we would assume so. Many earlier seasons / series of “Sherlock” were filmed in Wales, but they went away from that for “The Abominable Bride.”
These new episodes do not have a set premiere date just yet, but our feeling is that they will either come out later this year, or at some point in early 2017, similar to the timing of season 3 or “The Abominable Bride.” One way or another, you better believe we’ll have further updates!
