Ratings: ‘Angel From Hell,’ ‘Shades of Blue’ drop big in second weeks (as does ‘American Idol’)
The ratings are officially in now for Thursday night’s TV lineup, and it’s really not great no matter where you look. Here’s something we really cannot say very often: There is not a single show that made any sort of marked improvement versus the week before. It’s stunning, but that does not make it any less true.
With that in mind, there are no winners today! Instead, let’s just take a quick dive into everything that is going wrong across the board. (Update: “The Blacklist” adjusted up to a 1.6 in the finals, making it a winner.)
The losers – The biggest one to us is “Angel From Hell” (1.3 in the 18-49 demographic), which is looking already like a sure thing for cancellation. Can’t Maggie Lawson get a show after “Psych” that will actually stick around? CBS also may be continuing their curse here of not having a single-camera show succeed beyond a first season. All of their comedies were down, but “Mom” (1.7) was the only one even close to this.
Also, we gotta talk about “Shades of Blue.” Despite solid premiere numbers the Jennifer Lopez drama drew just a 1.3 in its second outing, a falling of over 28%. That’s still decent for NBC in this timeslot, but this is only week 2. Let’s take a look at where we are with this show a month from now, which could make this a high-profile disappointment if the ratings continue this sort of decline. Still, at least this was a better idea to greenlight over “My Diet Is Better Than Yours,” an ABC reality show with a 0.6 rating that is making them look completely awful at midseason this year. Remember, they have Shonda Rhimes for this timeslot beginning in February! They can’t wait.
“The Big Bang Theory” won the night with a 3.7, though it was still a decline from previous weeks. The same goes for “American Idol” (2.2), posting its worst performance for an audition show so far this season.
