‘Saturday Night Live’ preview: Fun with Adam Driver, Kate McKinnon

SNL -If you somehow missed the glorious news as announced during the “Saturday Night Live” Christmas Special last month, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” star Adam Driver is going to be hosting the show’s first episode of 2016 next weekend. He’s someone who has never been more popular, and he also has some comedy experience already thanks to “Girls.” Also, he spends so much time in New York that he probably has a great respect for the institution already.

The promo below is almost unequivocally a success, mostly because he and Kate McKinnon have some fun chemistry and the two are game to even shove as much food as possible in their mouths; yet, neither seemed to be that keen to smother their face with ketchup. Maybe that’s the only real weakness of the promo, since we feel like if Driver had squeezed the stuff all into his mouth, this probably would be going even more viral than it is.

Even as it is, though, this is rather funny, and it continues the trend from late last year of the show doing more of the promos outside of the studio and in more interesting, quintessential New York settings like a diner or, in the case of the Chris Hemsworth episode, a museum. We’re not sure they will be able to do this every week, but we appreciate that they are putting more effort into making these fun.

Also, there’s a lightsaber joke in here for “Star Wars” fans. We’re probably one of the few out there who hasn’t seen the new movie, so we cannot really make any references there.
