‘Daredevil’ season 2, episode 1 review: Matt, Foggy and Karen are back in action
It has been a long wait for more “Daredevil” episodes, but we are finally here! Netflix has released all of season two and we are here with you every step of the way. We will be reviewing each episode and will be capping our reviews off with an over all season 2 review of what we liked and what we want to see next season. Ready to dive into the premiere? Let’s see what Matt, Foggy and Karen have in store for us this time.
Foggy has somewhat accepted what Matt does in his spare time, but Karen’s been asking more questions then ever before and Foggy has had to tell her that Matt has a drinking problem and that’s why he’s banged up all the time. Business at the law firm is booming and they have a ton of clients, but as far as actual money coming into the firm, they are broke since many clients are paying them in boxes of bananas and homemade pies. We do have to mention that this was the same problem we had with the show the first season, which is that Matt seems to have a pretty incredible apartment for a guy who just got out of law school and likely has a massive debt, but now he has debt and he’s not making cash, so how exactly is he able to live the way he does?
With Wilson Fisk gone, the Irish mob decides to take back the territories that he took from them, but while at a meeting of the minds, they are all massacred… well all but one who finds Foggy and Matt to ask for help. He tells them that there is something big happening in Hell’s Kitchen as a group of vigilantes that are targeting mafias. When Foggy digs deeper he learns the same fate happened to some bikers a week before this, where a group of vigilantes slaughtered a large number of them. Matt does some digging of his own and finds out that it’s not a group of vigilantes, it’s just one man and he’s at the hospital trying to kill the one witness they have. The witness is able to escape with the help of Karen driving the get away car and Matt finding this vigilante on the roof top. Matt does his best to kick the crap out of him, but this man shoots Matt and he falls off a building.
This was a great season 2 premiere – they had a little romance (if you are a Matt and Karen shipper then this episode had some nice moments), some humor from Foggy, a quick wrap up of what everyone is up to now and then right into the action with the new villain. The one thing that this show does right over other superhero shows is that they keep the cast small and focus on deeper stories so we grow an unhealthy attachment to these people. If the rest of the season is in the same vein as the premiere then we are going to be thrilled. Episode grade: A-
