This ‘Gotham’ star won’t be starring on ‘Doctor Who’ … and for good reason
We imagine over the course of the next several months we are going to get to see the official beginning of the “Doctor Who” rumor mill regarding the answer to one question: Who could be the next star of the series? Peter Capaldi has yet to confirm that he will be a part of the show following the upcoming tenth season, and that in turn leads to all sorts of rampant speculation about who could replace him.
One name that you can apparently cross off already is Sean Pertwee of “Gotham” fame. His father Jon was the Third Doctor, and as he mentions in an interview with the Press Association, that is not something that he wants to try to mess with:
“Too big boots to fill. I could never do that. I’d love to, at some point in my life, do something as an ode to my father and also as an ode to the show. It’s an institution, it something that makes you proud to be British … But how can you top my dad? You can’t. He was my Doctor Who.”
That’s a sweet sentiment, and we imagine that there will be time at some point for Sean at some point to eventually step into a guest role in an episode. This is the sort of series that people just have a tendency to have fun playing, and everyone does want to feel a part of that at some point in their career. There are a few shows like that in America; for example, for a while it was a staple for a New York actor to do something in the “Law & Order” franchise.
