‘The X Factor’ UK rumors: Are Simon Cowell, record label second-guessing Louisa Johnson single?
We’ve said that we very much enjoy using CarterMatt as a platform to question dubious tabloid stories related to “The X Factor,” but the latest is one that we actually believe. After all, Simon Cowell and the Syco team may be regretting making Louisa Johnson’s debut single “Forever Young” after the way in which it has performed on the sales chart. While a change in chart tracking has made it harder for the song to get that Christmas #1 coveted in much of Britain, they’re still seeing disappointing sales as a whole, even when you take the smaller pool of viewers in mind.
Speaking per The Sun, here is what one source had to say:
“It’s an embarrassing result for Syco. Even though Louisa had two fewer days of sales, they expected the single to fare much better … On reflection, they feel picking a more up-tempo, anthemic song would have been a better idea.”
The source did make it clear that the team is still firmly behind Johnson and the sales of this track don’t indicate anything for her future. This is a case where the song could be at fault more than the artist. (Imagine what this would’ve been like had Reggie ‘n Bollie won the show, given that this song was horribly wrong for them.
We do think that Louisa will have further chances at a career; the only thing that we’d say is a real way to try and rectify this issue would be if the show figured out a water to cater winner’s singles to eventual finalists, rather than doing a blanket one that anyone who makes it to the final will perform.
