‘Downton Abbey’ series finale: Is there more movie talk beyond Christmas Special?
For viewers in the United Kingdom, the Christmas Special of “Downton Abbey” airing on Friday is going to serve as the final episode of the show, as it will for Americans when it airs in March.
So is there still hope for more of the series beyond this? Show creator Julian Fellowes and executive producer Gareth Neame have done nothing to squelch talk of a potential feature film. As a matter of fact, they’ve almost welcomed it by saying that this is an idea that they are eager and open to exploring. It may be a little while before a decision is made one way or another, though; for now, the only thing Neame will say after receiving such a question about a film is the answer he gave to Deadline:
“I’m glad about the movie question because it replaces the question of three years which was always, ‘When is the show going to end?’ We’ve had some conversations about it. Julian and I are keen. There is no script and no firm plan but it’s certainly something there is talk of; we’re not in denial about anything. We’ll know more next year.”
One of the biggest challenges for much of the cast may just be finding a way to ensure that they are all ready and available to film such a project. Michelle Dockery and Joanne Froggatt already have new projects lined up, and we imagine that it will not be long before many other cast members are scooped up. Everyone is going to want a piece of the ratings magic that was this show, and that puts many people in very high demand.
