‘The Man in the High Castle’ sets Amazon viewership record
What is this, a streaming provider actually releasing some sort of data about their actual viewership? Well … sort of.
Today, Amazon announced in a statement that through its first month of being released, “The Man in the High Castle” has set records in terms of overall viewership for the company’s Prime video service. The previous record holder was “Bosch.” The company continues to be mum about specific numbers, but that’s no surprise given that their competitors in Netflix and Hulu continue to do the same.
In a statement, here is what Amazon Studios Vice-President Roy Price had to say:
“We’re very proud of this outstanding series created by Frank Spotnitz, Scott Free and Isa Dick Hackett, which Amazon customers around the world have enthusiastically embraced, and we look forward to the second season … We hoped that once again bringing together the work of Phillip K. Dick and the vision of Ridley Scott — who brought us the classic film Blade Runner — would help deliver on our promise of creating some of the best television in the world for Prime customers, and we believe that it has.”
We do feel like this series has helped in a significant way to make Amazon programming a little more than just an afterthought in the eyes of many viewers. “Transparent” helped to put them on the map in terms of critical acclaim, but with this series, “Bosch,” and “Hand of God,” they are making their way towards cultural relevance. We’re not sure that we would put them on the level of Netflix just yet, but at least these shows come with free two-day shipping, right?
