Miss Universe 2015: Is Pia Wurtzbach, Ariadna Gutiérrez, Olivia Jordan the winner? (Live updates)

To some out there, we know that the Miss Universe Pageant is almost a sporting event. People watch it in large groups, and sit around eagerly awaiting what is going to happen.

In years of covering this pageant and other international competitions, there is one thing that we have learned above all else: People from the Philippines really tend to get behind people from their country! They routinely dominate the news cycle; even during the pageant tonight, “Filipinas” was a trending topic in support of their contestant Pia Wurtzbach. Here’s an interesting fact: 2009 was the last time that a contestant from the country was not in the top ten.

This year, Pia was joined by our own Miss USA Olivia Jordan as well as Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutiérrez in the top 3, which is also interesting from a historical perspective given that both countries have recently had a contestant win Miss Universe in the past. From here, the show unveiled a twist almost as though this is suddenly “Survivor” or another reality show: The final judge for the ladies will be their fellow former contestants! As Steve Harvey and his magnificent bow tie made it clear, these women have to start thinking about everything that they’ve said and done over the past couple of weeks. Being nice can pay off!

It took a while for the final result to be revealed, mostly because for some reason the show chose to bore us with some weird procession with Seal wandering around with the women on stage. From here, we learned that Jordan was the 2nd runner-up (a.k.a. third place), and the winner was … Colombia! We’re surprised, mostly because we were starting to think it was the Philippines’ year.

Wait … was it? Here’s the funny thing: We had packed this up and were ready to go, but Pia actually won. The host made a mistake! This has to go down as a historic blunder.
