‘The X Factor’ UK: Should Simon Cowell, Rita Ora, full judging panel return?
Unlike many other outlets, we’re not going to pretend that we have all of the answers here. Instead, let’s look at the current judging panel through the frame of one simple question: Should these people return? Our answers on the subject may surprise some of you out there.
Cheryl Fernandez-Virsini – Should definitely return. We feel like this was the best season for Cheryl since she first started the show, given how active and enthusiastic she was with Reggie ‘n Bollie. Maybe she should just get the Groups every year after this?
Rita Ora – Should return. Rita may not be as much of a lock to stay as Cheryl, but we feel like for the most part she was passionate and not afraid to give feedback. Also, it’s nice to have a couple of current artists on the panel, and she and Cheryl fill those roles.
Nick Grimshaw – Could go either way. Nick was better than people gave him credit for; we don’t understand still booting Josh Daniel (a lock to get many votes) over the controversial Mason Noise, who didn’t show up for the final. We also think he cared about the guys. We just wonder whether or not his presence brought the show many viewers.
Simon Cowell – Should go. Maybe we’re be controversial in saying this, but with him joining “America’s Got Talent” for the upcoming season we just don’t think he’s bringing anything new anymore. He often borders on hyperbole and Louis Walsh territory these days, and more than that we feel like inherently undermines the rest of the panel to have someone there who could control their music future. We’d rather have someone like Gary Barlow back, and then move Simon into an in-house mentor role where he can work with all the contestants behind the scenes to make them better.
