‘Homeland’ season 6: Is an idea already being cultivated?
The fifth season of “Homeland” is coming on the air Sunday, but as with all things TV, there is not going to be a whole lot of time for the executive producers to sit around and enjoy the moment. Not too long after the finale airs, everyone has to get involved and start thinking out what they want to do on the sixth season. Filming begins in the spring / early summer, and then it comes back once more on Showtime in the fall.
So are the wheels already in motion on the future of the series? Maybe conceptually, but there’s nothing hammered out just yet. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly in an article mostly discussing season 5 and the finale, executive producer Alex Gansa had the following to say:
“I just finished [season] 5 … We just want to facilitate a conversation about dramatic ideas and tell a story about our heroine who is right smack in the middle of it all.”
It’s possible that the path could be made somewhat clearer by the end of Sunday’s finale, but for now, we have to say that we doubt it. This series is not one to really lead much into the next season during their finales, with the only real exceptions being back when Damian Lewis was still a significant part of the show. From season 3 onward, we’ve faced huge question marks, and any of the finales in some ways could function as a proper series finale had that been the wish of Gansa and company.

i have loved homeland since it began. You can read time magazine and get the facts but homeland put a real face on the situation in the middle east. I appreciate the fact that the writers keep it real. thanks for a great show and I hope it continues…
