‘Bones’ season 11 fall finale: Is there still hope for season 12?
Tonight, “Bones” season 11 closed the first major chapter of its story with an explosive finale, one that injured Aubrey, brought in Sara Rue, and also had a devastating injury to Hodgins cause him to be paralyzed from the waist down.
Is there hope that he can walk again? Given the severity of the situation it won’t be easy, but speaking to TVLine, executive producer Jonathan Collier does suggest that there is a path towards eventually making it happen. For this character, we imagine that this will be a part of his journey, and there was never too much consideration into killing him off. (Yes, they killed Sweets, but as Collier noted to the site there were special circumstances there with John Francis Daley’s career going into overdrive.)
What we want to spend a minute here focusing on is how, for now, the show is being written as though there is still hope for the future. Collier has not been told that this is the last year of the show:
“Right now we’re approaching it as if the show is coming back, but… we could turn [the script] either way. Our hope is to keep things going into next year.”
The unique thing about “Bones” is that provided that Fox still wants the show and stars David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel want to keep making episodes, it will probably remain on the air. The tough thing is that this show is probably thrown around like no other, and it challenges its audience to perpetually find and then watch it time after time. Sooner or later, it’s inevitable that something will break. Let’s just hope that we can get at least another year or two out of it first.
