‘Bones’ season 11, episode 12 preview: When could Emily Deschanel – David Boreanaz series return?

While the great news tonight for fans of “Bones” on Fox is that you are getting a two-hour fall finale, here’s the not-so-great news: This said finale will be the last installment of the show for at least several months.

Just how far away is the show’s spring premiere? Let’s just say that the network has not even announced it, and they have charted their schedule out until the March 30 return of “Empire.” If their current shows prove to be successful, we presume that it is possible that we could not see Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz back on our screen until we start cutting it close to the May sweeps. We could then have a situation similar to last season, where there were some double-episodes and the show still ran longer than the end of the network TV season.

If we were to schedule the next handful of “Bones” episodes, we’d probably do something a little controversial and air it on Fridays at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time. The show actually clocked decent numbers in that spot in the past, and if you look at the competition out there, neither CBS nor NBC is even airing scripted content at that time. Meanwhile, ABC tends to run comedies. There is no other similar show, and it could get a decent stake of the market. In its current timeslot, there was scripted drama competition on NBC, The CW, and ABC. Meanwhile, CBS had the #1 comedy on broadcast TV in “The Big Bang Theory.”

Story-wise, all we are hoping for are some great cases and fun situations, especially given that this could be the show’s final season. We don’t think the recent lawsuit will have much of an impact on the decision, but the relatively-low ratings will.
