‘American Idol’ season 15 will end earlier than expected

American Idol -

American Idol” is still set to stage its grand finale, but it will be doing so a little bit earlier than expected.

According to a report from Billboard, the Fox singing competition is now angling towards an end date in April, four weeks earlier than what was originally projected. The decision here seems to be one made by the network, who is anxious to cut bait and move forward following what have been a few disappointing seasons. This also frees up the schedule in May to promote other properties. Also, who knows? Maybe they feel like they can get better mileage for the finale (which Nigel Lythgoe is returning to produce) in the event that they do it a little bit early.

The new season of the show will premiere on Fox this January, and for the most part the plan here is to keep things relatively consistent and expected. For example, we will see auditions, Hollywood Week, and judges’ cuts. There are no plans to completely reinvent the game, but to simply ensure that it better represents what viewers want right now and the show’s legacy.

Are we excited to see what the final season brings? Certainly, but we also feel at the same time like the show is a shell of a former self, and it is a little sad to see it go off the air when it is so far down the latter when it comes to its pop-culture relevance. We prefer to think of it during the happier times.
