‘Mr. Robot’ season 2: Creator Sam Esmail to direct all ten episodes
Well, how about this for a break from the norm? While many shows are lucky to have their creator / showrunner pen one or two installments, “Mr. Robot” is getting something particularly rare for its second season: Its creator Sam Esmail taking over every single episode as director.
Per Variety, Esmail is taking the reigns after directing a small handful of season 1 episodes, many of which he also wrote. While we have seen many sitcom directors helm every episode and Cary Fukunaga did all of “True Detective” season 1, it is somewhat unusual for a creator to also get in the director’s chair. It shows the level of commitment that Esmail has to making this show the best that it can be, and that the story is perfectly aligned with his vision.
Esmail also knows that the pressure is probably higher on “Mr. Robot” than most other shows presently on the air. The first season was critically-acclaimed enough to earn nominations not just for Rami Malek and Christian Slater at the Golden Globes, but for the series itself. Malek also received a nod from the Screen Actors Guild Awards, and he has a chance of taking home trophies from both organizations early next year. Malek has said that he plans to personally clear much of his schedule in order to focus on making the second season of the show as strong as it can possibly be.
As for when the future adventures of Elliot will air, think along the lines of next summer. There is still a long ways to go, and there is further news to report. The one thing that we know for sure right now is that USA has to be doing victory somersaults over all the attention that the show has received.
