‘Major Crimes’ season 4, episode 14 review: Sharon, Andy, and a flood of emotions

In honor of Thanksgiving, it only seems appropriate that “Major Crimes” gave us an episode on TNT that was all about being thankful for the people you have in your life … and also knowing when to say something when you have a chance to do so. This episode was incredibly emotional, mostly because what we ended up seeing here was the end result of people who struggled with finding the right time and place to say some of the words that they wanted to in their heart.

Of course, we’re talking about Sharon and Andy, and how Andy tried to pass along his message of love to her only if he didn’t make it through his stay in the hospital. We know he adores her; we know she feels the same way. Yet, the timing or the courage just wasn’t there, and instead all we had were smiles in the closing moments.

Will Andy be able to make it through this? We’re hopeful, mostly because it would be the biggest gut-punch ever (take that, “The Walking Dead” and Glenn) to pair up Sharon and Andy only to then kill him off. As tough as this ending may be to endure for now, kudos to Tony Denison and Mary McDonnell for fantastic performances throughout here. There was also a little humor here and there; we liked the discussion about Andy and Thanksgiving food, for example, since it kickstarted some of our early holiday cravings.

The case-of-the-week brought up a variety of hard topics on its own, whether it be abuse, pain, suffering, and even taking advantage of the system when it comes to health insurance. There were some notable moments here and there, but when you have a story like the one about Sharon and Andy tonight, it’s really hard to focus anywhere else in retrospect. Grade: B+.
