‘The X Factor’ UK notes: Monica Michael on Olly Murs flub; coronation song revealed
In starting off this edition of our “X Factor” notes, let’s go ahead and bring you some departing words from one of the shock eliminations … at least in terms of the way she was sent home.
Our feeling is that it is never particularly great to be eliminated, but it has to be so much worse when the host messes things up and/or gets confused. While we thought at first that Olly Murs had announced the result of the public vote before opening the envelope, we’re now starting to think more that he may have just messed it up by thinking that Monica had three votes to go home against Anton Stephans.
Ultimately, Monica does not seem to blame him for the mistake, or that it may be taking the footage away more from her elimination. Speaking in an interview on “This Morning” (which happened fittingly this morning), she proclaimed that “backstage he was absolutely devastated, so I feel really sorry for him.” Hopefully, he’ll get a chance to recover on the next new episode.
The coronation single is… “Forever Young.” The classic Bob Dylan song from 1974, which is one that we actually do rather love, will be the next track that comes down the pipe by the end of the year. We like the choice since it is somewhat of a timeless song, with the only thing weird about it being the idea of someone who is still a teenager like Louisa Johnson singing it if she wins. It would make a little more sense for an Anton, but most of the other performers in the competition now are significantly younger.
