‘Shark Tank’ video: CleanGrip brings X Games star Bryce Hudson to the Tank

Shark Tank -

Friday night’s new episode of “Shark Tank” is going to feature a variety of different presentations, but we feel like GripClean in particular is really the sort of thing you would only see on this show. Where else is there going to be a segment all about an X Games athlete coming in on a bike to then pitch a bunch of millionaires / billionaires about hand soap?

We’ll say right now that we’d be stunned if this doesn’t get at least some interest, mostly because the pitch is super-simple: It’s an all-natural industrial soap that actually contains dirt. Why? It works as a natural exfoliant, and will allow some of the grease, oil, or other substances on your hands to cling to it. Bryce Hudson is the man behind the product, and we really think he conveys what the brand is and who it’s for (mechanics, farmers, construction workers, or anyone else who gets dirty on the job) effectively. We don’t know his sales, but the valuation seems to be fairly modest given where this business could go down the road.

There’s really only one challenge that we see with this brand: Education. You have to convince customers that the dirt in the soap is a good thing, and not something to be afraid of. Do we think that this is possible? Definitely, especially with the sort of people Hudson is trying to reach. Let’s say you get this into the hands of a mechanic. If it works, they’ll tell other mechanics to use it. They’re not often the sort to care about the list of ingredients provided that they’re not harmful and they do the job in a reasonably short amount of time.

This is a business that we could see Robert Herjavec potentially having an interest in. The same could go for Lori Greiner; while we’re not sure that the target audience here watches QVC, she does have countless retail connections and could act quickly to get this in the right place.

We’ll have more on GripClean and other “Shark Tank” products later tonight. Stay tuned! You can also click here to see all of the products featured in the episode, or here to get some other TV news on everything we cover, sent right to you via our CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo: ABC.)
