‘Gotham’ season 2, episode 7 reaction: Where does the Penguin go from here?
There was a predictability about Monday night’s new episode of “Gotham” when it comes to the character of Oswald Cobblepot, but the events of it were in many ways necessary. We needed to see the man fly (or, being that he is the Penguin, waddle) too close to the Sun, and see a reminder that being the “King of Gotham” means that there are a variety of people who want to kick over your throne.
So how is he planning to move forward now without his mother in his life? It is safe to say that this is a seismic event for the character, and that is something that Robin Lord Taylor is keen to describe with the following comment in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter:
“I think he’s learned a tremendous amount, and has changed tremendously based on what happened. Going forward, we’re going to see him continue to discover who he is, but that’ll deepen and become more vibrant. He’s lost his mother, but also his relationship with Jim Gordon is very shaky and tenuous now. It’s almost as if he’s got full license now to be the monster that everyone seems to want him to be.”
Oswald also knows more about who is up against in Theo Galavan, who just so happens to be the new Mayor of Gotham. So far, everything in his plan has worked out perfectly, and the next order of business for him seems to be finding a way to eradicate the Wayne family from the history books.
The one advantage that Oswald may have is that Gordon is finally suspicious of what is truly going on. If he can get on the same page as the Detective, there’s always a chance for a change.
