‘The Walking Dead’ season 6, episode 3 reaction: The Steven Yeun shocker

Glenn -

We have to say, if “The Walking Dead” wanted to surprise us with something on Sunday night, they delivered on that and then some. You can get some more details about the story tonight by clicking the tag at the bottom of the page; we’re talking here more about the circumstances concerning tonight’s huge shocker. (Warning: Spoilers ahead.)

For those who have read the comics, the fate of Steven Yeun’s character of Glenn has been known for some time. He dies at the hands of Negan and his infamous weapon of choice, which is why so many people have wondered when Negan was going to show up. In some ways, the arrival of this character signified the downfall of Glenn.

So the logic in having Glenn killed off in a scene involving Nicholas and a wide array of walkers is a way for the show to dance around that in the most gruesome way possible. The legacy of Glenn is changed, and the same goes in some ways for Negan. If Glenn isn’t around now to die at his hands, who is? Should you now be worried for another major character? This is one of the aftereffects caused by what happened tonight, of course going along with the massive feeling of heartbreak everyone has.

We’re going to miss Glenn. Also, we’re going to miss Yeun, who was a breath of fresh air and someone who brought so much life to the show. Hopefully, he gets to shine on another show soon; we’d love to see him in a comedy, one that allows his to display some of his experience in that field.

Update: We should note that there are a variety of theories that Glenn could still be alive, but to us it feels like that would be really convenient, and not the way the show typically tells stories.
