‘Law & Order: SVU’ season 17, episode 6 preview: Rollins’ mother arrives in ‘Maternal Instincts’
With Amanda Rollins (and the actress playing her in Kelli Giddish) pregnant on “Law & Order: SVU,” the show is looking for as many interesting ways as possible to play this story up. This includes giving us a story on next week’s new episode “Maternal Instincts” that is all about learning how she starts to handle her mother and potentially her sister entering the picture at around the same time. Her relationship between the two is very different, and they each could be bringing very different things into her life at this particular point in time.
The synopsis below give you more of a sense of what is coming up, and that includes Mike Dodds arriving to work in the squad as one of the newest members of importance:
“Rollins’ (Kelli Giddish) mother Beth (Madsen) throws her a baby shower while the SVU reports to a four-star hotel where a famous violinist was raped by her colleague, Anton Krasnikov (guest star Zach McGowan). With no memory of the crime, Anton claims a hired escort drugged and robbed him, and evidence leads to the shocking return of Rollins’ fugitive sister Kim (guest star Lindsay Pulsipher). Meanwhile, Sgt. Mike Dodds (guest star Andy Karl) arrives for his first day at SVU.”
This episode is actually going to be one of the last that you see of “SVU” for the month, and there is a particular reason for this: In order to get the two shows on a level playing field once more when it comes to episode count, NBC is going to be doubling up on new “Chicago PD” episodes on October 28.

It’s time for Amanda’s sister to either be caught or killed. She’s had a murder warrant out on her for 3 years? SVU is going to let her escape again? Amanda is still going to have a job if She doesn’t help catch her? How can Amanda let her Mother anywhere near her baby unless her mother is on her side, not her sisters? The Shark is ready and primed to JUMP two weeks in a row.
