TV Quick Hits: ‘Scream Queens’ marathon; Harry Connick Jr.’s post-‘American Idol’ gig; Piers Morgan’s new show

Harry Connick Jr. heading to daytime – We begin today’s edition of TV Quick Hits by giving you at least a little bit of a sense of what Harry Connick Jr. has planned for himself following the end of “American Idol.”

NBCUniversal Domestic Television Distribution is working with Connick on a syndicated daytime variety show entitled “Harry,” which could air on Fox stations are the country. There would be interviews, games, performances, and much more. It feels similar in some ways to “Ellen” or “Best Time Ever,” and we do think that Connick is a consummate entertainer. If you are going to get some viewers in the daytime format these days, you have to give them a reason to watch live over Netflix. The element of surprise is a part of that.

Another reason we’re potentially hopeful about this show in particular is the involvement of Justin and Eric Stangel from “The Late Show with David Letterman.”

“Scream Queens” marathon – While the ratings have been disappointing, Fox and its sister stations are not giving up on the show yet. FX is going to air a six-hour marathon of the Ryan Murphy series on Halloween from 6:00 p.m. Eastern until midnight. We actually wonder if the show would have been a better fit on the edgier network in the first place.

Piers Morgan’s new gig – For all of those wondering what the former CNN host / “Celebrity Apprentice” winner is up to, he has signed up to host “Good Morning Britain” alongside Susanna Reid for three days a week starting in November. No word on if we’ll see him back on American soil with a show anytime soon … though we do wonder as a potential “America’s Got Talent” replacement for Howard Stern.
