‘Quantico’ episode 3 review: Alex Parrish versus the world
We found the first two episodes of ABC’s “Quantico” to be particularly entertaining, but we have to say that episode 3 is when we started to really have confidence in what the show has with this drama. You’ve got a wide array of interesting characters, new guest stars (Mark Pellegrino!), and then also a few interesting twists that we did not see coming.
For now, the biggest one is rather simple: Alex Parrish was set up long before she entered Quantico to be an agent. This was a long game, and a plan that is not going to be easy for her to work her way of. So far, it feels like possible candidates are all around, and the show is not ruling anyone out. Even people like Simon are working multiple angles in the present, and we have her mother holding press conferences to boot, using information she has been given along with the lack of communication that she has had with her daughter.
The flashes between Alex on the run and then her time at Quantico are still for the most part seamless, even if at the moment we find what’s going on with her in New York more interesting than her at the Academy. That’s just a function of us knowing where the majority of the action lies now. Shelby and Simon are interesting characters, and they along with Alex help to make that particular part of the show strong.
For the time being we find the series enjoyable, but the difficult weight that is hanging over “Quantico” is the mere reality that if the big reveal tied to the main story is a letdown, the whole show falls apart. With that, let’s just hope that some plans have already been laid out. Grade: B+.
