ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 5, episode 3 preview: Fitz and Mellie’s interview has a quick ending

Just about every time that Olivia and Fitz decide that they are going to try to make something work for them romantically, interestingly the same sort of thing ends up happening: Fitz sticking with Mellie. He really did not want to in this case, but actually decided on it after he realized that if he allowed his relationship with Olivia to become public knowledge, this is what she’d be known for in history.

The funny thing about “Scandal” season 5 so far is that we are routinely seeing various characters come in midway through a big event to blindside others, and we almost wonder whether or not Abby takes some glee in shutting down the President’s interview with the First Lady after the guy went rogue on her just this past episode with attending Mellie being sworn in.

This time around, Abby interrupts the joint interview with Fitz and Mellie most likely to deliver the news that we never imagined we would see: Olivia announcing to the world that yes, she is the mistress to the Commander-in-Chief. What happens from here is sure to be chaos, and it could set into motion a war between Mellie and Olivia that we have not seen before. If there’s one thing Mellie wanted at this point, it is power, and looking like she has not been privy to an affair is probably the last thing that she wants to do.
