‘Blindspot’ draws huge live+3 numbers for NBC
While we knew that “Blindspot” was probably going to deliver big numbers for NBC for its series premiere, who knew that it would manage to perform so well in live+3 data?
NBC announced on Monday that the Jaimie Alexander series grew its audience from a 3.1 in the premiere to a 4.5 in the 18-49 demographic with three days’ worth of additional DVR data available. This makes the show the strongest since “Empire” in the spring when it comes to gaining big chunks in the demo. When it comes to total viewers, the show went from 10.6 million to 15.2, the largest amount of growth since “The Walking Dead.”
While these numbers are tremendous and we imagine that NBC is already prepping a full-season order for the show, we are not going to sit here and say just yet that this is going to be the next big hit on television. After all, there are some more issues that the series has to work through, starting with retention. This had such a buzzy premise, and that scene of Alexander climbing out of the bag in Times Square is already iconic. The issue, will be telling stories now that live up to this.
There were comparisons in the early going between this show and “The Blacklist” in terms of their marketing, and this is a mold that it really should follow. What got “The Blacklist” in some trouble was that the quality slipped in season and the timeslot changed. Hopefully, the adventures of Jane Doe and her many tattoos will keep people invested for a little while. Time will tell.
