‘Blindspot’ episode 2 preview: How will NBC’s Jaimie Alexander series move forward?

Tonight, NBC premiered a show that they clearly have huge expectations for in “Blindspot.” Starring Jaimie Alexander and a billion or so tattoos, they were hoping to use that already-iconic Times Square scene to launch a potential super-hit. Reviews for the first episode are a little mixed, and we do have some concerns that we are going to just fall into a pattern here of giving us the same sort of cases week after week with nuggets of clues as to who Jane Doe really is.

Who knows? Maybe we’ll be surprised, but for now, we figure we’ll star this off by sharing the synopsis for next week’s episode “A Stray Howl”:

“The team unlocks a cryptic tattoo that points to Major Arthur Gibson (guest star Robert Eli), an Air Force pilot with a painful past and a lethal agenda. Jane (Jaimie Alexander) continues to search for clues to her identity and is haunted when flashes of a disturbing memory force her to question her past. Meanwhile, Weller (Sullivan Stapleton) thinks he might know Jane’s true identity.”

We should just go ahead and throw this in here: We’d be incredibly shocked if for some reason Jane’s identity actually comes out this early. To us, it feels very much like the network wants this show to be like “The Blacklist,” and with this in mind, they would like to keep much of its central mystery under wraps for as long as they possibly can.

We’re going to come back tomorrow with a ratings report from this and some other new fall series. After all, this is a show that the network has promoted like nobody’s business, so we have to imagine that the expectations are through the roof.
