‘Survivor Cambodia: Second Chance’ video: Our take on the first nine minutes

Survivor -Originally, we were going to present you with our predictions for the upcoming “Survivor Cambodia: Second Chance” season this afternoon. However, we feel like the upcoming video is going to trump most anything else, and you’re probably going to stop whatever you are doing and watch it.

This video (via Entertainment Weekly) is the first nine or so minutes of the season, and while it gives away almost nothing in terms of the game itself, it serves as a really fantastic introduction both to the location of Cambodia, its history, and some of the cast members. Starting with Kelly Wiglesworth, you get an introduction to a wide variety of the players who are taking part this season along with some of their stories.

Among those featured in this opening are Kelly, Kelley Wentworth, Andrew Savage, Abi-Maria Gomes, Joe Anglim, Kimmy Kappenberg, Spencer Bledsoe, Jeff Varner, Jeremy Collins, Kass McQuillen, and Ciera Eastin. Not everyone had their moment in the sun here, but we wouldn’t view that as a slight. We think the selection process of these was based first on nostalgia (the three contestants from the early seasons were featured) and then also recency, given that we had multiple people from the past three seasons shown off. Ultimately, we feel like this is more about memorability for casual viewers than people destined to go far in the game.

The people ignored for the most part were those from the middle seasons, such as Stephen Fishbach, Peih-Gee Law, Terry Deitz, and Monica Padilla. These are the players who interest us the most in this season, since they are wild cards and may not have as many easy-to-find friends out there.

All in all, we’re more excited about this season than we could possibly explain, and we are pleased to confirm once more that we are doing exit interviews. We’ll have those, pending any changes, every Thursday.
