‘Donald Trump’ interviews Donald Trump on ‘Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’
Clearly, this has been quite the week when it comes to politicians on late-night TV. Earlier this week, Jeb Bush had a less-than-stellar debut appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” Then, Joe Biden visited the same exact show and had a surprisingly honest, poignant interview where the two talked about death, faith, and trying to move forward in life.
Typically, visiting Colbert means that you are going to be challenged on some things, though he is not the over-the-top conservative character that he was on Comedy Central. Meanwhile, going on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” means that you are probably going to get at least a slightly more lighthearted treatment from start to finish, and Donald Trump definitely had that in moments.
The biggest viral part of his appearance comes from the video below, where Trump (Jimmy Fallon in a wig) speaks to his own reflection (the real Trump) going into the show. The Donald has never been a particularly great actor, which is why most of this feels somewhat stunted. Yet, at the same time we’ll at least say that he is okay with making fun of himself a little bit. We already knew that he was thanks to the Comedy Central Roast years ago; the real irony there was that there was talk all the way back then about whether or not he would run for office.
Just in case you were wondering, this visit from Trump helped to make “The Tonight Show” the clear winner Friday night. The show drew a 3.6 household rating in early reports, which is the strongest performance for a Friday show since Fallon first took over the show.
