‘UnREAL’ season 2 star Shiri Appleby books role on ‘Code Black’
2015 has been a huge year so far for Shiri Appleby, if for no other reason than that she has landed a fantastic role on one of the best new shows of the year in Lifetime’s “UnREAL.” She has an outstanding job on that show in playing Rachel, but she’s likely not going to be called on to do more work over there until early next year.
Therefore, she’s going to do something similar to her co-star Contance Zimmer over the course of the coming weeks, and taking another job on another series. Per a report for Variety, Appleby is set to recur heavily (she could appear in as many as eight episodes) of the upcoming CBS medical series “Code Black,” and will play the part of Dr. Carla Niven. She is the ex-girlfriend of another character in Dr. Malaya Pineda (Melanie Chandra). The two find a way back to each other when Dr. Niven, who is pregnant, is admitted to the hospital. It is also discovered that she is suffering from cancer.
This role is certainly one that makes sense for Appleby, who is currently pregnant and will not have to hide that while filming the series. This pregnancy could impact the timing and eventual airing of “UnREAL” season 2, but we’ll give you a little more news on that later on as more information starts to come out.
For now, this seems like a good role for Shiri to take on; not only that, but it is a nice coup for a freshman series like “Code Black” in search of a little bit of additional prestige.
