Dancing with the Stars 21 spotlight: Will Andy Grammer, Allison Holker strike perfect chord?

Andy -

Will Andy Grammer keep his head up all season, or simply say “honey, I’m good” halfway through? (Yes, we’re here all week.) “Dancing with the Stars” contestants come from all walks of life, and what we find intriguing about Andy mostly is that this is a guy who is very musical and probably understands rhythm. However, at the same exact time he’s also not exactly someone who is going to be dancing around at one of his shows. We don’t know how he will fare here.

With that in mind, we’re prepared to start piecing it together in the latest entry of our show spotlight series.

Name – Andy Grammer

Age – 31

Claim to fame – Singer, best known for “Honey, I’m Good” and “Keep Your Head Up.” He’s also a talented musician, and plays guitar on a wide array of his tracks.

Partner – Allison Holker. There’s a little bit of an interesting story here in that originally, Peta Murgatroyd was set to be his partner before she discovered that she had an injury that would need surgery to fix. Holker did make it very far last season with Riker Lynch, so she’s also a partner Andy should be very happy to have.

Strengths – Andy has a history on stage already, knows how to please fans, and is one of the more “current” of the contestants. Therefore, he can probably bring in some younger fans who are internet-savvy to help to get him some votes. Given that he’s got some rhythm, he at least has a shot at doing well with this.

Weaknesses – We find sometimes that singers in particular are leery of going all-out on some of the bigger dances like the jive or the samba, and we hope that Andy is able to approach them with the right sort of reckless abandon. Also, there’s no guarantee that understand rhythm will equate to understanding dance. Gavin DeGraw is one of the easiest comparisons to make, and he only lasted a few weeks.

Prediction – Andy will probably last a little bit longer than Gavin did, but at the moment it’s hard to project him as someone who will make it all the way to the end. He’s going to have to really sell the performances, and he’s going to have a few dances that we think could be trouble for him.
