‘Empire’ season 2 spoilers: First look at Marisa Tomei!
At this point, it really shouldn’t be a shock to anyone that “Empire” is getting big-name guest stars to sign on. They’ve got Kelly Rowland, Chris Rock, Mariah Carey, Becky G, Lenny Kravitz, and more stopping by at some point. At this point we figure that they could get the Pope to sign up if Fox had the Super Bowl this year and it was airing after it.
What we have for you today is a first look at one of the more important new characters for the season, a billionaire named Mimi Whiteman (played by Marisa Tomei) who is going to be the sort of person who thinks that she can take over anything with the right amount of money behind her. She finds it fun taking on these challenges, and thanks that owning a music company could be particularly exciting.
The first photo of Tomei above was first shared by TVLine, and it features her standing clearly alongside Cookie Lyon (Taraji P. Henson). We assumed for some time that Mimi was going to be someone who was trying to purchase Empire Entertainment, but given the talk about Cookie maybe starting her own label early this season, could she be an investor in that? There are at least several possibilities for what her role could be.
Regardless of what it ends up being, we do think that Tomei is a fun addition to the cast at this point. She’s got the clout of some of the best actors in the business, and thanks to that this isn’t just a casting designed to get people watching. She’ll do a great job with the part.
