MTV’s ‘Awkward’ season 5, episode 3 preview: Jenna’s actually … popular?

We admit that there is a part of us that is in part surprised that there is still a focus on high-school popularity on “Awkward,” if for no other reason that there came a time for us where we started to really not care about this so much anymore when we were in school … and it probably came at some point in senior year. Maybe we’re somewhat similar to Jenna in that capacity.

In the preview for next week’s new episode that aired tonight, it was revealed that Jenna has a sudden surge in attention after getting class suspended on accident, and this means a wide array of people are giving her attention. Is she excited about this? Maybe there are some perks, but she’s not nearly as enthused about this as someone like Tamara would be in somewhat similar circumstances.

While this is all happening for Jenna, more or less the exact opposite is happening to Matty. He’s never been less popular, and he is going to have a chance to see some of the negative stuff that comes as a result of that, including being forgotten and mistreated. It has taken a long time for something like this to happen, but we’re happy that it is. There is something fun about seeing the tables turn for Jenna and Matty, and there is only so long that they can be in this situation given that school is ending.

Let’s just hope that in this episode, these two characters get a little closer to their endgame … if that endgame means being together.
