‘Chicago PD’ season 3 premiere review: Did Lindsay return, and save Halstead’s life?

chcago_pd_stillWhen we last saw Lindsay on “Chicago PD” she was going on a bender after the death of her friend Nadia. This bender has gotten so out of control that she’s actually leaning on her mother, Bunny, and has quit her job handing in her gun and badge to Voight. Can he help get Lindsay back on track or is she just a lost cause right now? let’s see what’s in store for us this season.

The largest flaw with the premiere was mostly just that so many different events were ones that could be telegraphed from so long ago, starting with the capture of Jay Halstead and Erin Lindsay’s journey to rescue him. She had went away from the force, fallen back into hard times, and was almost set to lose any opportunity at all to rejoin the PD. However, after a successful rescue mission (and one that included her having to shoot an assailant in self-defense), she is now on the inside track to get her job back.

In terms of twists, the only one that we did not see coming was Voight listing out a series of demands of Erin was to return to the force, and one of them included her having to sever all of her ties with Bunny. That is a difficult, heartbreaking choice since we are talking about her own mother, but what other choice is there if she wants to get her life on track? It is a choice we feel like she will eventually make, but there will be more than likely consequences that play out through the rest of the season.

As for other key events, Olinsky is trying to establish himself as something more of a father figure, and we wish we had more of it. The same goes for Ruzek and Burgess, who thanks to a key reveal at the end of the episode, may have some further complications in their life courtesy of Roman.

This premiere loses points for predictability, but to a certain extent, you do have to blame NBC for spoiling so much of it in advance. At least we got to see Lindsay kicking butt and taking names, and the stage is set for her to return to the force. Episode grade: B-.
