‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 7 spoilers: Looking ahead at a potential time jump
We’ve been surprised about many things as of late when it comes to “The Vampire Diaries,” but we imagine one of the biggest ones has to be the number of people jumping ship on the show online right now before even seeing the premiere. Will it be strange seeing it without Nina Dobrev? Sure, but we don’t quite understand the impulse of those who want to try to punish the series because she wanted to leave, while everyone else involved wanted to keep making new episodes.
What we are perhaps the most interested about right now is the time jump that has been hinted at as of late, and how it is one that is going to change the show in a wide variety of different ways. One thing that may surprise you, though, is that they may not be explicitly connected to the wasteland-of-sorts that you saw at the end of season 6. This is something that executive producer Caroline Dries teases at when speaking in a new interview with TV Guide:
“The flash-forwards won’t necessarily be about how we ended last season … [They’re] introducing a mythology that will push us forward into Season 8.”
These flash-forwards are also going to lead to at least the introduction of one potential Big Bad, and here’s the twist: It is someone you already know! Is a major character taking a turn towards the dark side? Given that this is “The Vampire Diaries” we are talking about here and they are known for their crazy twists, almost every possibility has to be considered.
