Nickelodeon considering reviving ‘Rugrats,’ ‘You Can’t Do That on Television,’ other shows
Is it really possible that Nickelodeon is looking to jump back into a time machine with some of its programming? It’s not something that we really considered them doing before now, but when you think about it, it’s smart. Many of us who grew up watching their shows either in the late 1980’s or 90’s are now adults, and with many starting families, it’s the perfect way to create some sort of viewing environment where parents and kids watch together. It’s almost the “Girl Meets World” effect.
According to Variety, there are a number of different shows that the network is considering bringing back per president of content and development Russell Hicks, but they have not decided on one in particular just yet. Some that have been mentioned are “Rugrats,” “Hey Arnold!”, or the classic “You Can’t Do That on Television” that really started the whole “people getting slimed on TV” phenomenon. The irony there is that this show actually started in Canada and not Nick; it was brought there a little later after finding success.
There are a pretty wide array of shows out there that we could see Nick bringing back for revival, mostly because some of them have that sort of timeless feel to them. It’d be fun to us to see a revamped “All That” with new cast members, a version of “Kenan & Kel” with them having new adventures in the world, or even “Rocko’s Modern Life” just to see if they can still get some stuff past the censors like they did so many years ago.
The biggest bummer to us is that “Doug” became property of Disney, since that is really one of the perfect shows that would appeal to all generations even still. Plus, it was better before Disney got a hold of it.
Hicks said that any show that is potentially revived would probably have some “twist” to it, and there’s no real guarantee that they will be in series form.
