‘America’s Got Talent’ results: Did ‘Dunkin’ Save’ help Benton Blount, Samantha Johnson, CraigLewis Band?

While “America’s Got Talent” is no longer in the quarter-finals, NBC is keeping the Dunkin’ Save around. This is great news for those of you out there who like to feel like you are a part of the show … and pretty much a bummer for those of you on the West Coast who realize that your votes really don’t matter too much.

Without further ado, let’s dive right into the acts who are really going to be in need of your help in order to survive later in the night: Benton Blount, Samantha Johnson, and the CraigLewis Band. This is somewhat of a surprising result when it comes to the acts in need of the Save. It’s mostly just interesting because if this was 2009, Benton and Samantha probably would be in the finals already. The age of singers getting through to the next round without a problem is clearly over … but we do think Benton has this.

The funny thing here is that the Dunkin’ Save is not even the most surprising news of the night. We’re shocked more that Arielle Baril, who we considered a lock to advance, is not. Derek Hughes and Oz Pearlman are both moving on, and she is not.

Now, let’s talk about something even more shocking: Somehow Siro-A not advancing to the next round. We know that Drew Lynch is really great and he’s got that whole inspirational angle, but the Japanese dance group is probably more deserving than any other act on the night in terms of sheer ability. We do wonder to a certain extent whether the group ran into a little bit of bias as a non-American act.

It was pretty clear that we were going to see Benton getting the save, and that happened. From here, we were down to the final pick, and the CraigLewis Band is going through. Here’s something that is shocking and also a little bit disappointing: Out of the five acts advancing (Oz, Derek, Drew, Benton, and CraigLewis Band), there are zero women.
