‘Downton Abbey’ season 6: Jim Carter teared up during series finale
Carter spoke on his subject while present at the Edinburgh TV Festival, where he said (per the Telegraph) that it was specifically saying farewell to the crew that made the entire process of departing rather painful:
“I thought I would say goodbye to the crew who work so hard … Seeing their faces sobbing, it just did me in. We were puddles.”
We’re not shocked at all at the closeness between cast and crew. These are people you work together with for many months of the year, and given so much of the location work that is done, you are often in places where there are few camera crews present. It’s not like Los Angeles, where there are huge studio lots and crew members are a little more interchangeable. Many of the people working at the end were there from the beginning.
Carter also said that the finale, which will air in the UK on Christmas Day, is definitely “satisfying,” and it could see many characters departing down a wide array of different paths.
We’re probably going to be satisfied with the end just so long as the show doesn’t do anything insane. To us, it’s been mostly about the journey there.
