‘Dancing with the Stars 21’ spoilers: Carlos Pena, wife Alexa Vega to compete

How about this for something a little bit different when it comes to “Dancing with the Stars” season 21? This season, a married couple is going to compete against each other. We’ve seen skating partners compete against each other in Meryl Davis and Charlie White, but this is certainly different.

On Thursday, ABC confirmed that Carlos Pena and his wife Alexa Vega are each going to be competing for the Mirrorball Trophy, which is going to throw some extra competition into this mix this time around. In theory, it sounds fun … though we’re sure that not everyone is that familiar with the two of them.

When it comes to Carlos, he is best known for his role with Big Time Rush, who have made a name for themselves in both movies and TV shows. Meanwhile, Vega originally became well-known thanks to the “Spy Kids” franchise, though she has appeared on “The Tomorrow People” and other programs since that time.

We do like the idea of these two people performing against each other, and we do also feel in many ways like this is yet another ploy to try to pull in viewers in that 18-49 demographic. We do think that the show needs to do their best in order to cater to the older crowd, and maybe they are going to do that with some of the other stars that are still to be announced over the course of the competition. We’ll have some other updates very soon, but some other cast members include Bindi Irwin and Victor Espinoza.
