‘Poldark’ season 2: Could Aidan Turner star on BBC series for another five years?
Has “Poldark” really been renewed for five more years? This is something that looks almost official based on some stories that you may see out there, but the truth here is that it’s a little bit more complicated then it seems.
There are multiple different reports out there about what the future holds for the series, but according to the Mirror, BBC executives are drawing up a plan for the Aidan Turner series that could run for five years and could be valued at more than 50 million Pounds (or $78 million US dollars). We understand the reasoning here. The re-imagining of the classic miniseries has drawn big ratings, and there is a feeling that this could become an international hit on the level of another recent classic in “Downton Abbey”. Here is what a network source reportedly had to say on the subject:
“We are keen to find a long-running drama which will return year after year and bring in a big audience – our own Downton Abbey. We believe Poldark fits the bill perfectly. Ross Poldark is the perfect television hero because he is not only good looking, but a good man as well. Viewers – especially women – find that very appealing.”
Now, we should note that there is a difference between drawing up a five-year plan and executing it. A network would be insane to give any series a five-year renewal, since there are so many things that can go wrong in that time. Say that the quality falls off a cliff, the ratings decrease, or a few cast members decide that they want to move on. You don’t want to throw guaranteed money at something that is not a slam dunk.
Still, we know that the show has the potential to last this long since it has the foundation, and Turner has the potential to be a major star.
