‘The Muppets’ video: Rowlf hangs with Anthony Anderson, Tracee Ellis Ross
We’ve talked at length at this point about how “The Muppets” is using celebrity cameos to their advantage in many of their promos, and they are now doing it all over again! This time around, though, they are doing so with both a Muppet and two actors we have not seen in other videos to date.
Let’s start here with the Muppet of choice in Rowlf, which makes us tremendously happy watching him get a chance to be in the spotlight. He’s always been our favorite Muppet: We find that his one-liners are generally pretty good and we like that he plays the piano with the best of them. Rowlf is joined here by Tracee Ellis Ross and Anthony Anderson of “black-ish” fame, and he quickly gets a hard lesson in how his show is different from theirs. “The Muppets” is filmed in the mock-documentary style that we’ve seen with many other sitcoms over the past couple of years, and there’s a great tongue-in-cheek aspect to it. Unlike “The Office,” we don’t actually think that the documentary is going to “come out” and wow the nation, yet, at the same time the characters know the are being filmed.
Rowlf complains that he has no privacy at all when filming this show, and after hearing this, Anthony and Tracee make it clear that they have plenty of flexibility to do what they want when they are done with their scenes. It’s something that he is very jealous of, and of course asks immediately if he can come over and be their family dog.
“The Muppets” and “black-ish” will both be airing new episodes in September.
