‘Ballers’ finale spoilers: Watch the first sneak peek right now
It really doesn’t seem like that long ago “Ballers” was beginning on HBO, but we’re now approaching another key point in the series’ run: The point where we say goodbye. “Flamingos” is the title for the season 1 finale, and while the synopsis below (via TV Guide) doesn’t offer too much insight, it does suggest that Dwayne Johnson’s character of Spencer is going to have a whole lot on his plate, and the stakes will be higher than they have been to date:
“In the Season 1 finale, Spencer faces a tough decision when Joe has an idea for a new venture; Ricky is confronted by his dad; Charles gets another chance; and Jason and Spencer try to get through to Vernon once and for all.”
“Ballers” has emerged as somewhat of a quiet hit for HBO this summer. It really was overshadowed by “True Detective” in the press, and there were some creative issues that it had along the way. Still, it is hard to deny that this is anything other than a compelling comedy / drama that the network has marketed well, and it’s also coming out at a good time given that NFL training camp is going on around this time.
If there is one thing that we can say right now with some confidence, it is that the show shouldn’t have pressure to tie everything up so neatly at the end of this season. It was renewed some time ago for a season 2, and while this happened after the episodes were written, didn’t they have to feel reasonably confident that this would be the end result?
