‘Girl Meets World’ season 2, episode 13 reaction: Riley’s semi-formal dilemma; Jack Hunter’s return
We admit that as someone who grew up in the 1990s, we for the most part watch “Girl Meets World” waiting for any and all reference to the original series. Luckily, we had a great one of these in Friday night’s new episode “Girl Meets Semi-Formal.”
Who didn’t love the cameo tonight by Jack Hunter? We’re glad anytime that we get a chance to see an old favorite on the show, and he also played a nice role in the show as his advice to Riley helped to further along the main story: Her uncertainty as to how to handle a semi-formal dance crisis. Charlie asked her to go to the dance with him, which was awkward since she was waiting for Lucas to do the same thing. Why didn’t he? He just assumed that they were going together.
We’re not going to say that in general, this was the most significant episode in the history of the show, given that there was a lot of filler in here, especially the performance by Sheppard near the end (even if the song is pretty catchy). Still, the message remains the same here that right now, friendship is really the most important thing. We feel like in some way, there was some subtle commentary in here to what is one of the show’s principal issues: Sometimes making the romances happen a little too quickly. This was a nice reminder that these kids are still just that, and there is plenty of time to fall in love and having sweeping romantic moments later. For now, just enjoy your friends!
Of course, we do still think that the show is probably setting up for Riley and Lucas to be together in the end, but they’re not in any hurry to make that happen.
