‘Chicago Fire’ season 4 schedule changing again thanks to Neil Patrick Harris variety show

For one reason or another, NBC just cannot figure out what they want to do with the upcoming “Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris.”

Originally, the variety show was going to be airing at 10:00 p.m. Eastern time every week starting with the Tuesday, September 15 start to the show. Now, NBC is making some other surprising changes to the way that they’re planning this one. Starting on Tuesday, September 29, Harris’ show will move to the 8:00 p.m. “family hour,” pushing “The Voice” back an hour. When “Chicago Fire” season 4 premieres on October 13 (which is at least its present return date), it will do so in its old 10:00 p.m. timeslot.

We’re not sure whether or not these moves are good news for “Best Time Ever.” NBC was high on this show earlier this year, and given their success with their live musicals, they certainly feel at least more than others like there is a market for this sort of programming out there.

However, we wonder if the complete failure of Fox’s “Knock Knock Live” has them at least a little more nervous. We don’t think that the family hour is as good a spot for the show. While it definitely will appeal to a wider potential viewership there, it also is going to have more competition courtesy of comedies over on both Fox and ABC. Granted, “Best Time Ever” is not a comedy per se, but it probably has more in common with that than anything that CBS or ABC will be putting into the 10:00 hour.

For now, we’re still optimistic that this show can become a hit. If anyone can pull it off, it is Harris with all of the talent that we know he brings to the table.
