Ratings: ‘Under the Dome’ season 3, ‘Mistresses,’ ‘Beauty and the Beast’ stay low

Isn’t this proving itself to be quite the miserable summer when it comes to TV series? You would really love to see something get over the hump and really produce some wonderful ratings, but instead what we are witnessing almost constantly here are disappointments, one right after the next in the ratings.

For the latest example of this, you really do not have to look any further than the ratings for three shows in particular on Thursday night.

“Under the Dome” – When you consider that the drama is coming off of “Big Brother” with a 2.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic, only getting a 0.8 rating is pretty pathetic. We know that this show has a nice deal with Amazon Prime, but we’re not sure that even that will help to get it a fourth-season renewal with these numbers … and no evidence that the bleeding (metaphorically) will stop.

“Mistresses” – As much fun as we think the show is, we think the combination of the new timeslot this season and losing Alyssa Milano has hurt it. A 0.6 rating is not necessarily anything new for the show, but it’s still miserable and will likely lead to cancellation. One thing we have wondered for some time is whether or not the title has scared away some more conservative viewers from ever watching.

“Beauty and the Beast” – Yes, we do find it very much funny that a show drawing a 0.2 rating in the demo is the one getting renewed. We can just chalk that up above all else to the international success of the show, and it coming from a CW-friendly studio in CBS Television.
