‘Once Upon a Time’ season 5 spoilers: The meaning of ‘Siege Perilous’

We like to lend a helping hand from time to time in deciphering episode titles for some of your favorite shows, and this is what we are here today to do when it comes to “Once Upon a Time” season 5.

Let us start with the news itself: In a new post on Twitter, executive producer Adam Horowitz confirmed that the name for the upcoming third episode of the season is “Siege Perilous.” Per Arthurian legend, this represents a vacant seat at the famed Knights of the Round Table for whoever manages to find the Holy Grail. This certainly suggests to us that this will be a huge episode for the Arthurian part of the story this season. King Arthur, Guinevere, and Merlin have all be cast already, and Sinqua Walls is confirmed to be returning as Lancelot … at least in the past, if nothing else.

For the record, the first two episodes (if you have not heard already) are entitled “The Dark Swan” and “The Price,” with the latter being a key reference to one of the show’s most-famous quotes about magic. There is not really a key throughline in here, other than what we know about Merlin being needed to potentially do away with the Dark One for good in Storybrooke. Right now, the spirit is possessed within Emma.

Presumably, “Siege Perilous” will air on Sunday, October 11, two weeks after the show returns with new episodes to ABC.
